Invention Commercial

P3T3_Invention from Kapaa Middle School MEDIA on Vimeo.

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post! For the past 2 weeks, we've bee working on a project about commercials. We actually thought it was gonna be easy but it really wasn't. Our main goal for our project was to actually make the car and make sure it was water proof. Our biggest problem was when we tried to shoot the car flying so Ala threw it up in the air and the car missed the blanket and fell on the hard cement. The whole top part fell off and so that's why there's that redneck on it. Well that was our main goal for this project.

Our best team moment was that last scene when we tryed to get us saying "The Allterainian Auto is Au-some!" while getting us perfectly in the shot. We were all tired but I don't know what was Mele's problem was. I have know idea why she made that face during the shot. But it's good for us because it actually cracks me up! Another team moment for me was when me and ala dropped the car. And that was my best team moments.

During post-production editing we all have to do a certain things. Like Ala. He Put all the shots together and in order. Me and Mele added the fun stuff like the words and the music. We all decied on a fun jingle for the music. Ala also put the voice over next to the shots. So that is all and thank you for reading this weeks blog post.

Scratch Game Design

Title: Scratch Game Design Label: GT Portfolio
I: Explain how user experience influenced your game
B: Compare & contrast the features of each game
C: Describe your best code & most difficult bug fixes
Embed all Scratch games & SS your best code

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post! for the pass couple of weeks my class has been dong coding and we are now making our own video games on a website called Scratch. We have made two scratch games already - A platformer game and a chase game. My first ever scratch game I made was the chase game. the user's experience made me influenced my game by using scary sprites to chase the cat. I also just chose the default cat as my sprite-1 because it was my first game ever in scratch.

Composition Scavenger Hunt

Hello everybody and thank you for reading this weeks blog! Today I will be talking about composition techniques. The on technique I think is the most important is Rule of thirds (subject). I chose rule of thirds (subject) because I think if we never have rule of thirds (subject) then how will we interview somebody the proper way. You can't just put somebody smack dab in the middle and it won't have any power and emotion. It's also the easiest technique of all. And that's the most important technique to me.

I think the most difficult technique is leading lines because you have to make environmental lines leading to a subject. To me, finding environmental lines pointing to a subject is super hard. The only leading lines example to me is a school hallway at Kapa'a High School. I think we could use this more when But to me is really hard to find so that's why leading lines are hard to me and how I could use it.

My team is very helpful! So right now, I'm gonna tell you what we all did. Ala and Mele took the videos and I was like the actor and kind of the ideas. But Ala and Mele was mostly the ideas. I was mostly the actor. Ala was also the person to tell us what to do and editing. Mele also edited. So thank you for reading this week's blog and see you next time.

Cracking the Code

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post called Cracking the Code! Now we are doing another project about but that's all I really know about it. I think that everybody and I mean EVERYBODY should be able to code because it is as easy as making hot pockets. Also because coding is fun. You could code something to do something. It's basically like commanding a dog to move or sit or stay but more like a computer. People can finally upgrade to thing e next generation and finally learn to code. Coding may look hard but that's also good. Coding can help you move anything on your device. That's why everyone should know how to code.

My first experience with code was actually in 3rd grade when I was in lego robotics and Me and my friends learned how make the robot move and do certain types of things.  For example, we built like a crane to roll a ball and hit bowling pins. I've been doing that from 3-5 grade but didn't code until a week or two ago. And i'm in 7th grade right now! So it's been a long time since i've coded. And that was the first time I've coded.

If I could design any program or game I would wanna design Instagram because I like going on Insta and I think it's a fun to share things to other people. I'd like to make something that I like and make it better. I could probably code it so people can't hack into other people's accounts. I'd also try to code it so it would stop people from bullying online. Thank you for reading this week's blog. See you next time!

My Humorous Monologue

Hello everybody and thank you again for reading this week's blog! Today I will continue talking about my comedic monologue. Right now I will tell you what I learned from this project. Some of the stuff I learned were new and old information. I also forgot some of my old information so if I mention something that I already know then this is why. I learned how to use the cameras properly and import the videos to the computer. I learned that on the cards that go into the camera, they're these little switches to lock or unlock a card. This is something I definitely learned. I also learned how to make a funny joke. I learned how to grade our project. Those were the things I learned in this project.

Something I definitely learned and did not include because I'm going to talk about it right now is padding. If you don't know what padding is, I'll tell you what it is in my own words. Padding is when you start the video and let it play to the minimum of 3 seconds and say action. When you're done with the video wait a minimum of 3 seconds and say cut. That is basically padding. I think padding is crucial because you could start a video and the camera wouldn't be ready to record and then your video will be missing a couple of parts in the beginning of your video. Also at the end because it could cut off some of the parts at the end. And that was what padding is and why it is crucial.

So I found out that my comedic monologue was the best of the whole class! But I'm not going to talk about that. Right now I'll be talking about weaknesses, strengths, and what I could've done to improve. I think the weaknesses I had in this project was trying to get the bingo shots. I had to get bingo shots ASAP. I didn't know when or where to get bingo props. So I just thought as this to be the best possible way to do this. My strengths were probably the joke writing because like I said earlier, I'm growing up watching Seinfeld and I just got great feed back from the series. Probably I could've improve by getting something easier than a bingo game. But I think I chose it because I was trying to think of the boringest (I know that's not a word.) thing in the world. So that was why I chose a bingo game. But now that I think about it, I think I could've use something like channel surfing or something. I don't know. Well that was my post for this week and I'll try to keep you updated during this fall break. So that's all. See you next time and have a great fall break!

Comedy Writing

Hello everybody! I'm Makaio if you don't already know and you probably already know that I'm in a new project about comedy. I don't know if you know this but not only is it my first time doing this project but it is also Mr. Sanderl's first time teaching this project. I think a sense of humor is an important character's trait because everybody loves to have fun. People would like other people that likes having fun. People wouldn't like people who don't like having fun. When people are having fun, they tend to laugh. I learned that the easy way, by laughing everyday. People don't wanna be like robots and don't have a sense of humor. That's why I think a sense of humor is a important character trait.

Here are some tips to make a humorous narrative. These tips might not work because this is my way of making a hilarious narrative. Tip #1: Think of something that you don't like. This works because if you say it with sarcasm it will seem funny to the viewers. Tip #2: Say it with expressions. Like I said with the sarcasm, if you say it in a way that you don't mean it or in a really funny voice, you'll get to the readers funny bone. If would probably also help if you do funny hand gestures. Tip #3: Practice, practice, practice! Practice reading it to make it how you would want to say it. Tip #4: Share. It may not seem funny to you but if you can ask someone to read it and make sure it's funny and makes sense. Tip #5: Confidence. Now that you made your joke now all you have to do is have the confidence to say it to your audience. That was 5 tips (my way) to make a joke.

My comedic monologue is funny because I made nothing into something funny. I chose Bear Grylls because he actually has a pretty interesting life. I think my monologue is funny because it has funny Bear Grylls voices and pretty interesting things. I grew up watching Seinfeld and it is a really funny tv show. Before the show they show a little comedic monologue that he made. So I guess I learned a lot and think it that my monologue is pretty funny. I hope you liked  this weeks post. See you later!

Motivational Poster

C: Summarize biggest challenge & how to improve

Hello everyone and thank you for reading this weeks blog post. If you can already tell, this week's post is called Motivational Poster. The requirements of this project was to at least have our manifesto and our personal quotes in different text layers called Manifesto and Personal Quotes so we don't get mixed up. Then we would need 4 photos. The first three would be the three photos we posted on google+ called #gtsym1, #gtsym2, and #gtsym3. The last one would be of our face. Next we would copy and paste both Manifesto and Quotes in the text layers in photoshop. We would Kern them so they could fit the whole page like the top photo to the left. After, we would need to turn off the layers balance the 4 photos to fit the page. When your done with that, turn on both text layers and double click one of them and make sure that you adjust the text and make sure you turned on and adjust the drop shadow, stroke, outer glow, bevel and emboss. Then do the same thing with your other text layer. Make sure that your stroke is a triadic color with your other text layer. To change the color
to match with the text, Go to edit and go to adjustment layers and add Color Balance, Levels, Curves, and Exposure. And basically those are all the requirements for the motivational poster.

Then after, we must insert the three #gtsym from google+. Once you've inserted the three pictures from google+, then open your portrait with photoshop and put them together and visually balance them to look like what's to the left. After I wrote my Manifesto and quotes, I copied and pasted into two separate text layers in photoshop. Then turn off the pictures and Kern the quotes and manifesto to fit the page. Next change the drop shadow, stroke, outer glow, bevel and emboss on the text and the stroke a triadic color with the other text. Then I added he adjustment layer to match with the text. And that's what I did to make my motivational poster.

My biggest challenge was the Kerning. When I was trying to change this one sentence, it would always go to a different place. If I could do this again, I would get the pictures ready and do the kerning better.

Personal Manifesto

Hello everybody! I am now back in school still in G.T. My new G.T. blog post is about manifestos. Before I can get to that, I'll tell you five interesting and unique facts about me. One interesting and unique fact about myself is that I love going to the beach! I could be body boarding or digging a hole at the beach. I love the beach because when I just look at the beach, I just tell myself these words. "I'm so lucky to live here!" Another fact is that I am currently playing soccer and the fun part is that me and my friend Jeran are the most experienced players so we're like the team leaders on the team. A third fact about me is that this year, I'm in the ukulele and choir band. I signed up for ukulele because when I'm playing the ukulele, it's really fun to strum on. My fourth interesting fact is that I'm in a computer class called G.T. but you probably already know that because in G.T. I get to have my own blog! Finally my last unique fact is I got a really competitive family when it comes to sports. I have one last fact. My name is Makaio.

Now that I'm getting into a new G.T. project, where I get to make my own manifesto, here's what my manifesto will say. "Bodyboarding is fun. Goals represent the wave and once you've caught the barrel you have finished a goal. Once you've caught the wave, go for the barrel. If you miss the barrel, go back on your board and try again. Bring the wave your all. Show the wave that you can catch it. Get on your board and kick as hard as you can. Once you've gotten on the wave, turn to the barrel. Try your best to turn to the barrel. If you got through the barrel, you've done your life goal. Once you're done with that wave, go for another wave or in this case goal. Never stop giving up on anything." That was my 2015-16 personal manifesto.

I think my manifesto applies to readers because goals are things that people have a hard time doing. When people try reaching their goals but it becomes to hard for them so they just give up and do it later or never again. So that is I made this manifesto, because people always give up on their goals. It also applies to the readers because people think that doing one thing is hard, but it won't be hard once you've actually tried to do it. People are getting way to lazy just sitting on a couch either on their phone or watching television. So it applies to the readers also to not be lazy. Well, thank you for reading this blog post and see you in the next blog.

Lyrical Livelihood

My favorite song lyrics are "Jungle" from X Ambassador and Jamie N Commons, featuring Jay Z. "Jungle" is my favorite song because the song is like a song to just listen too to just get pumped up before like a game. Basically I listen to this song every Saturday before my soccer game. My favorite lyrics in the song are "There’s records to break, medals to take. Flags to wave. The city is ours" because this sentence means like... what it sounds like. I think this means that legends are made from breaking records and taking medals. That legend plays for their country or state and that he takes all or nothing. Or at least I think that's what it means.

My team is Alaka'i Gonsalves, Meleana Keawe, and me. We chose the song "Everybody's got Somebody but Me" by Hunter Hayes Ft. Jason Mraz. We chose this song because Ala thought that since everybody else is doing like a really new and popular song. So instead, we chose a 2011 song about anti-love. We also thought it would be easy and funny to make and it would be appropriate for school because most songs are about love and other stuff about love. This song we think is exactly the opposite of those songs. We think our final music video will turn out pretty funny when we show it to the class.

Our visual story will show that there are two people in the park trying to look for their friend in the beginning of the school year, but when ever they try to find someone, it just turns out horrible for our three characters. All three of us will be showing us finding the perfect BFF but they never can find a best friend to be friends with. They then find each other and becomes BFF. They meet each other at a park and then they greet each other and they do like a cool hand shake and I don't really know how we end it but I think it's going to be like them just having a good time. I guess that's all we got right now. We start filming on May 7- May 8. That's all we have for right now.

Our Animation Story

If you don't already know that I'm doing a project, I already told you in my "Animation Outtakes" blog post. I also told you that we were doing "Asha Moves Away" and why we are doing it. Our title/focus statement is "Asha Moves Away". The focus statement tells "Lani's story" because Asha is Lani's friend. Asha, in the film, moves away. If it is hard to tell if we are telling Asha's story our Lani's story, I don't blame you. Lani was such good friends with her friend (her real life friend) that they shared a bond.

The audience will learn that when you love something, you must set it free and that you need to make new friends even when your best friend has left. The audience will learn this lesson because our team thought it would be easy for the audience to understand this topic (but not entirely). They are probably going to figure it out the lesson by knowing that Lani and Asha are going to be really good friends. Asha needs to move away and Asha gets on the plane and goes to California. After that when Lani goes home, she gets a message from her conscience (played by me) and the conscience is basically telling one of the lessons. When I said you weren't going to get the lessons entirely, well this is what I mean. I guess we forgot to put in the extra lesson (or at least I think, you need to watch it for yourself).

The best moments were when Lani was trying to fake cry. It was hilarious watching and listening to Lani fake cry. She tried it twice. The first time was hilarious and the next one was pretty successful, but still kinda funny. When we were trying to make the fake tears, the water drops were going everywhere. When my team was watching what we had so far, and we saw Lani's face and heard her cry! The worst moments were when we were trying to focus the camera on the white board and half of all the pictures were blurry. So we had to redo the pictures. When we were trying to retake the pictures, something bad happened! When we were taking the pictures, Mr. Sandrel got a call from the SBAC people. Lani had to go and finish her SBAC test. SHE HAD TO BE IN THE SCENE!!! We just need her finger/hand so we used Meleana's finger/hand. Everything went okay after that.

Animation Outtakes

So this part of the year is quarter 4 for school and as usual, we have another project for G.T. I think that this project is going to be somewhat fun because this project is all about animation. Before I can tell you about this project, I need to tell you all about my teammates. My first teammate is Lani Alo. Lani loves to surf. Lani is also really funny... Most of the time. Asha McGinnis is Lani's friend. Asha likes to swim. She is also really happy all the time. Meleana Keawe likes to go to the beach. Mele also has a really good personality that everybody likes. They are all the people on my team for my project.

Stop-Motion is when you take a series of pictures of a subject and every time you take a picture, you have to move the subject. when you are done taking pictures, you put them into imovie and put the pictures in order the way you want it. A .GIF is a repetitive stop-motion that goes over and over and over again. The bouncing ball up there is a .GIF. To make one, you go to Photoshop, put your windows into animation. Then draw what you want to do, then make your subject. Once you make the subject, click on the little button on the bottom that looks like the new layers buttons. Then move your subject and click the button again. Just keep on doing that and when you think your done, your done.

Our team is doing our story called "Asha Moves Away". This story is about a girl named Asha moves to Kauai and becomes BFF with Lani. They become such great friends after they meet. Then Lani gets the news that Asha is moving away. We are telling Lani's story because she had a best friend that moved away. This story is something we must care about because this is a very sad topic. our movie is supposed to teach that "If you love something, you must set it free." and "You have to learn to make new friends, even if the greater one has left. That's why we all decided to do our story on "Asha Moves Away".

Typography Images

Typography is the style of printed matter. Typography makes images an impact on photos by knowing who you really are because whatever the words on there represents you. For example, you are smart, responsible, and athletic. You put all those words on top of your picture and people will assume that you are those words. That's what you need to achieve when you are making your own typography photo. Once you've got your words you can start in Photoshop.

Probably my biggest challenge during this project was catching up to all my work because I'm part of a ukulele and choir program and they have this competition that's right before aping break. The bad part is also a good part in some way, but the competition is also in California. So at the beginning of 4th quarter, I asked my teacher "Can you tell me what to do?" and I asked other people what I was supposed to do next. I don't know if the final draft of me is okay because it's your choice if it looks like me and stuff. In my opinion, I don't like mine.

The first example of typography is of Steve Jobs. I chose Steve because my teacher said that we need to do an easy typography on an innovator. I also chose Steve because he made the future come true and made the iPhone. I would be dead if I didn't have phone! The second example is of my advisory teacher, Ms. Fujimoto, and I used her to make the intermediate typography.

Double Exposed Portraits

Portrait photography, which is also called portraiture, is a photograph of a person or group of people that shows expression, emotion, personality, and mood of the subject. You could show the photograph is usually the person's face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included. Portrait photography is related to profile and silhouetting because in the processing in making a portraiture, you need to take a picture of a profile picture then go to and in photoshop, you would need to silhouette the outside.

To make a double exposure, you'll need to take one sidewards profile picture of yourself, then two other pictures that symbolize who you are. Then you import the photos and all that stuff, then open photoshop, go to files, scripts, then load files into stack. Then click browse and find the files you want to use. Then after you press ok, you can mess around with the controls and make something very creative! You would want to make one because double or multi exposure can make other people know who and what kind of person you are.

The first photo shown is a profile photo of me and if you can see the two things that symbolizes me is a basketball going into the hoop and a mountain. The basketball represents that I play sports such as basketball. The mountain represents that I am strong. I put a mountain because mountains cannot be moved right? Mountains are STRONG enough to stay in one place. My photo could of been better if I added a little bit more space in my head for the basketball and hoop.

The second photo looks like there're a bunch of leaves and trees. Well they are. Mr. Sanderl said that we didn't really need to have a symbolic thing about us. Although, I could of make the yellow parts on my head, I could of erase the yellow part. The top is only yellow because I was in front of a green screen and when I used the dodge tool to make the background white, it made the background yellow. Well that's all. Goodbye.

HDR Photography

HDR photography is a type of picture that you have to take 7 photo of the same thing in different exposure that shows the horizon line, sky, and ground, also known as wide shot. HDR is used for making a boring old photo into a cool looking photo with a lot of details. I like and dislike HDR. Why? Because HDR is cool to make and the final picture is just awesome! I also don't like HDR. It takes to long and what if you move your camera? You'll have to do it all over again. And that's why I like and dislike HDR photography. HDR photography makes any boring photo into a creative, cool, very detailed photo.

There is 6 easy steps to make HDR photo. Step 1: Control the exposure to go to the lowest exposure and take at the most 7 pictures with different exposure. Step 2: Importing photos & organizing Once your done with the photos, Go to adobe photoshop. Step 3: Once your done with the photos, Go to adobe photoshop. Step 4: Automate < Merge to HDR Pro < Ok. Step 5: Make the photo as creative as you can with the tools to your right. Step 6: REPEAT!!! Just follow those easy steps to get a beautiful picture like these. This is not different from automatic HDR.

The first photo I was trying to make the horizon line straight with no cars but if you can see it there is a car behind the bushes because there is a highway right behind the bushes. I was thinking about adding that yellow whatchamacallit (I'm not sure if it's a pole). I tried adding rule of thirds horizontal and it turned out pretty good and I wanted to add foreground and like I just said, it turned out pretty good. The second photo turned out better then I actually thought because the rule of thirds wasn't correct because my little brother was placed right in the middle of the shot and in the left corner of the photo was bad because that is the most brightest spot on the photo and everybody's eyes goes right there. But I thought that I tried to do something different because someone else would place someone right there not doing anything. But I made my brother hold the baseball bat as if he was in a baseball stance. And with the scar on his face maybe that would relate a little more to what he's doing because what if he like got into a accident (in honesty, he did) doing a sport (baseball) he loves (he actually doesn't like baseball). Well that's it for now.
See ya later!

Movie Trailer Critique

Our latest project in G.T. was our Movie Trailer. We all had our own jobs. Me and everybody else all were actors. Mason I can say was probably the director because he put his heart into this. I also put my heart into this... It's just that when Mason tells me to go to Mr. Sandrel's class, I keep on forgetting. I still contibuted really good. The trailer plan I could say was hard. I didn't know what the keywords meant. We all had different ideas on the synopsis and voice acting script but we actually finished it.

The requirements were to have at least a minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes and 30 seconds and we had to much B-roll and we had to pick which B-roll we were going to pick and we just barely got 2:23. We got 5 scenes or at least 5 scenes in the 2:30 we had. We got the voice acting done with Mason doing it. We got more than enough foley... It's just that all of them were useless. Our movie poster that they chose was mine because they thought that mine was pretty cool so we met all the requirements.

I thought the class critique was pretty good because it wasn't so good and it wasn't so bad but still. Everyone thought it was funny which what we were barely trying to go for but it was pretty cool too. I agree with how we got a 4 because like I said earlier it wasn't so good and it wasn't so bad so actually I totally agree with the score that me, Mason, Micah, and Jason.
